F is for Farm – 2015 A to Z Challenge

“The Martin family farm sits on some of the best farmland in the state. Ten miles outside the town of Red Brick and along State Road 29, the farm includes 50 acres of land, 25 of which are planted, 15 of which is used for grazing by the small Martin herd of 6 cows and 1 bull, and the remaining 10 acres that are woods and used for exploring and hunting.”

“The house, a simple two story, has all the modern conveniences you would expect. It has five bedrooms, 2 and 1/2 bathrooms, a large finished basement, a substantial kitchen, and great room. It sits in the bottom end of a “U” shaped driveway that circles the house on one end and has two entrance/exits on to Route 29.”

“The Martin’s, John, Lisa, Jon, and Dan, are second generation Nelson county farmers. Both of their parents bought farms after World War 2 and continue to be active in the Nelson county farming community.”

“John, who has a BS in Agriculture and an MBA in Ag Business from the local state university is considered an up and coming agricultural leader in the state. He and Lisa have won the Nelson County Farm of the Year award twice and the Nelson County Farmer of the Year, three times…”

Jon put down the glossy covered magazine as he and his dad drove along Highway 41 to the local state university and asked,

“Dad, are we famous?”
