If you are looking for distinctly Northern Indiana cuisine and an experience which takes you back in time while being 21st century you can look no further than a small town named Shipshewana, Indiana (population 658 in 2010).
In the heart of Amish country, Shipshewana boasts numerous attractions notably, their large flea market and the Blue Gate Restaurant which features Amish flavored cooking and is served family style. Come hungry and come with an empty stomach because those bowls of mashed potatoes are large!
Shipshewana is in the heart of Amish country and there are also numerous Bed and Breakfasts and hotels that dot the area. Some offer package deals which allow visitors to experience Amish cooking at a local Amish farm.
Entertainment is first-class with the latest and also legendary Country and Christian music artists frequently stopping to do one or more performances at the Blue Gate Theater. The theater boasts an intimate setting which allows for an up close experience.
