Leader as hub

What I am reading this week: October 18, 2010

A collegial model has replaced the expert model. The young pastors of an earlier era might have felt honored to have even a few moments with a recognized expert who was normally available to only a select few. They might welcome an expert’s coming from the mountain and dispensing a bit of wisdom before leaving us to return home mesmerized by his or her lofty degrees, positions, accomplishments.

Things are different now. Currently, we expect mutuality and interaction. We look for a leader and mentor to be a hub; to be connected to many others; to be acceptable, authentic, and human. We are reframing leadership and learning to value most those leaders who help build community.” (Italics mine)
